Inspired by Althea Gibson, the first African American to win a Grand Slam tennis event, crossing the color line of international tennis. She captured the singles crown at the French Championships (now the French Open) in 1957. In total, Gibson won five Grand Slam singles tournaments.
These lightweight, dangle earrings feature a handpainted mudcloth pattern and wooden bar beads, resembling the shape of a tennis racket.
